Bizarre Ticket Penalties-Read this BEFORE you plead guilty.

Speeding tickets effect your license-everyone knows that. There are, however, other ways your driving record can affect your life, especially in an age where nationwide driver’s records are easily available via the Internet from private data services.

A client came to us after an 81 mph in a 65 zone ticket, on an otherwise clean license. He plead guilty, and found out he could not get “umbrella” insurance on his homeowners’ policy- he had a “risk factor” (over 80 mph ticket) that the insurance company would not accept. We were able to have his plea vacated, and plead to a lesser charge.

Another client, from the South, found that his plea to a 25 mph “over” ticket in New York, came back to his home state and caused him to be suspended there. New York reports out to other states. We were able to help him as well.

Job Seekers in today’s market undergo reference checks frequently. The DMV record is the first place any potential employer looks, and to many, a list of offenses or suspensions equals a possibly irresponsible employee and no job offer.

Many car rental companies don’t rent to you if you have a ticket on your record over 80 mph-and that information is available to them at the rental counter for three years after you enter that plea.

Many jobs, especially those in the pharmaceutical industry, require a clean license.
